What about tunnels?

We have 20 tunnels in the Faroe Islands – of which four are subsea tunnels and are toll tunnels. These subsea tunnels connect the islands of Vágar (airport) to Streymoy (Tórshavn), Streymoy to Eysturoy, and Eysturoy to Borðoy (Klaksvík).

All our cars are equipped with a tunnel “chip”, so the renter does not need to pay the toll fee at a fuel station or online, as indicated on the road signs when entering these tunnels.

Carrent will deduct the tunnel fees from the deposit that is taken when you pick up the car.

Price for at return drive Vágar - Streymoy or Eysturoy - Nordoy is DKK 100,-

Price for at one way drive Streymoy - Eysturoy is DKK 230,-

 

Price for at one way drive Strendur, Eysturoy to Rókin, Eysturoy DKK 125,-

Price for at one way drive Streymoy - Sandoy is DKK 230,-

Do I need extra insurance?

Basic insurance is always included in the rental. This insurance comes with a liability (excess) of DKK 8,000. Please note that the basic insurance does not cover tyre damage, glass damage, or roadside assistance.

This liability may be covered by your credit card, home insurance, or travel insurance—but not always.

Is there any security deposit?

Yes, the security deposit depends on the insurance option selected, but with a minimum of DKK 3.000,-

 

Is the vehicle checked for damages before I receive it?

We check all vehicles for damages, and these are reported in the car rental contract. However, we recommend that you double-check the rental car for any damages Carrent may have overlooked, and take photos of the car when picking it up and dropping it off. Stickers marked ‘Damage reported’ indicate that the damage has already been logged with Carrent.
